Libbie from 1st Gee Cross Guides travelled to Sweden with Girlguiding NWE for ICE – an inernational community action project abroad.
The ICE project brought guides aged 10-14 together from across North West England for a service based project.
The girls volunteered at the Kullaberg Nature Reserve to help remove an invasive species of tree, it’s known as German Maple there. It spreads really quickly and stops the native plants and flowers growing. The task was to pull up seedlings and saw down some of the more established trees. Over the two days, the group managed to remove over 1,000 seedlings and trees.
It was then time for sightseeing – favourites included – whale watching on a Rib Boat, sailing on Valkyrie Hogana, meeting the scouts and swapping badges with them and going on a Moose Safari – a part from when a Moose tried to nibble her!!
Libbie had never been on a plane before, and although she was very nervous, she loved every minute of it; made lots of new friends, especially Amy, Isla & Catelyn and she would love to travel on another international adventure in the future.
